MAM Chiloé
The Museo de Arte Moderno de Chiloé or MAM Chiloé opened its doors in 1988 on the Chiloé island and is nowadays one of the most austral museums in the world.
In addition to a fabulous collection of Chilean art from the 1980’ to nowadays, the MAM Chiloé counts with an on-site residency program opened to artists from all over the world.
“What the residence offers is the environment, a place that has a different culture from the rest of Chile, a special place, {…} there are many conditions that make the artist here feel in a different place and therefore understand to also perform different works" explains Eduardo Feuerhake, Director of the MAM Chiloé.
As the only contemporary museum on the island, many activities are organized around the resident artists that involve the local community.
«That is very important for us because the students or visitors can know the process of the work but they can also see the result in the exhibition, and talk a little deeper about the work of each one of them» indicates Catalina Pavéz, in charge of the Educative and Mediation Programs.
The artists in residence will be offered a comfortable space to live during few weeks, access to the collection that gathers more than 500 works from almost 300 artists, workspaces to carry on the project selected for their residency, and contacts with the local art scene.
«The experience in Chiloé has been incredible, I have found wonderful things. So, it has been very intense, very productive, a good feedback giver on what one does as an artist, and dedicating yourself only to thinking about creation is also a privilege that we also want to repeat» confides Carola Cofré, artist in residence at the MAM Chiloé.
