Casa Yaxs
The Foundation YAXS is a cultural project that, since its creation in 2014 by Paulina Zamora de Otero, generates an archive and a documental memory work of the past decades of Central American art history.
This heritage is accessible at the YAXS library to anyone who wishes to learn and study the rich cultural legacy of this world’s region. On one hand, the Foundation preserves history through its historical archive, and on the second hand, it gives an impulse to the artistic investigation and production through cultural exchanges and grants.
The residency takes place in the Casa YAXS and is directed to artists from all disciplines, investigators, curators, academics, and pedagogical agents. The program aims to welcome creators from all over the world wanting to expand and challenge their creative and professional practices through investigation and knowledge exchanges, in a friendliness environment.
Artists may apply for a one to three months residency by sending a Curriculum Vitae, an artist statement, and their latest works. They will receive a private room and shared studios, and access to printers, editing material, exhibition space, the library, and the historical archives of the foundation. In addition, artists can count on mentoring and help from the foundation’s staff in the elaboration of their projects. Residents can give workshops and are encouraged to end their residency with an open-studio. Even if it isn’t mandatory, artists may leave an artwork or a piece of their choice for the archives’ growth which is given back to the Guatemalan community.
