The international residence of artists FONTE was created in 2013 by the artists Simone Moraes, Marcelo Amorim and Nino Cais in the artistic neighborhood of Vila Madalena in São Paulo. The residency program is open to visual artists and performers who want to experience the Paulista’s effervescent art scene. Artists are welcomed for a period of time varying from one to three months, they will be followed by an art critic during their stay and will be granted a public show at the end of the residency. « It was clear to us that we are still resisting here in the neighborhood, offering some alternatives to galleries and institutions, doing the things ourselves as artists like exhibitions, classes, teaching, printing, and performances », confides Marcelo Amorim, co-founder of the place.
FONTE is a famous platform for creativity in the cultural capital of Brazil, where artists, curators and art critics are used to gather and exchange about art contemporary practices. Also well connected to similar spaces, among which the residencies Hermes Visual Arts, Ateliê 397 or Project Fidalga, FONTE offers a full immersion experience to resident artists. « The artists end up knowing many people who can join their interests, that can be linked to the development of their research. This exchange is the most important », explains Simone Moraes, co-founder of FONTE.
