Portraits of Artistic Residences – Focus on México
December 6th, 2018 – Oaxaca de Juárez, México
Artists in Residence Television, in collaboration with the Liliput Gallery (Puebla) and the Álvarez Bravo Photographic Center, invites you to the talk “Portraits of Artistic Residences: Focus in Mexico“, this Thursday, December 6th, at 6pm at the Álvarez Photographic Center Bravo.
Since 2010, the number of residency programs has grown vertiginously, from 1,500 residences in 2014 to more than 2,500 in 2018. The phenomenon is particularly strong in Latin America where a quarter of the residences created in the world during this period have been created. Mexico and Brazil, almost ex aequo with 60 residency programs, become the countries with the most artistic residencies in Latin America.
The proposal of each space is unique and has a great impact on the cultural, artistic and social plan, locally and internationally. Art residencies are increasingly important in the lives of artists, giving them time to live, research and develop new works of art, disciplines, concepts … Often offering a new context and culture, residences allow artists to more open minded, to think outside the box and explore out of their comfort zone. Giving them time to focus completely on their projects also allows them to progress personally in their works and their quality. For artists, it is a unique opportunity to get to know other cultures, and for those local cultures it is also an chance to connect and exchange with foreign ways of thinking.
